Oldham College moves towards a sustainable future

22nd April 2026

For Earth Day, we’re reflecting on the ways we champion sustainability at Oldham College.

The most recent example of this was Green Week, which took place from 16-20 March. We marked this week with a range of activities at college, including:

  • Simon Jordan, Principal, hosted an insightful roundtable event with students and local organisations. Discussion focused on topics such as sustainability and net zero, and what this means for young people and future careers
  • Fashion, Games Design and Art learners held an impressive Eco Art exhibition on campus, transforming environmental ideas into bold designs
  • Classes across all subject areas headed to the Imaginarium to explore climate change through immersive stories
  • Our Sustainability Marketplace was attended by special guest universities, employers and organisations leading the way in sustainability, who shared more about green careers and how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future.

We also held COP Week, which coincided with the United Nations (UN) Climate Change conference in November. This included more initiatives, including plant-based options in our ViewPoint Café, a Wardrobe Wednesday clothes swap and Green Careers exhibition.

Looking forwards, we will be building on these successes for next year’s Green Week and COP Week. Staff development is also a focus, with plans to expand on our current Carbon Literacy training.

Jacob Scott, Sustainability Officer, said: “As a college, we are proud of our commitment to being as sustainable as possible.

“A key focus of my role is embedding sustainability into our teaching to ensure learners are prepared for a greener future. With facilities on campus like the Imaginarium, and our links to green initiatives in the community, we’re able to bring real-life context to principles of sustainability.

“Our recent Green Week was a fantastic opportunity to bring sustainability to the forefront. We are excited to build on this and continue the conversation at Oldham College.”
